Practical information > Getting to Paris

From Roissy/Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport

CDG is 23 kilometres north east of Paris.
The easiest way to go from CDG to the hotels downtown Paris is to take the AIR FRANCE shuttle (= car/navette) to Gare Montparnasse (tickets to be bought on buses). To get to the Venue (UPMC), take the RER Line B (direction St Remy Les Chevreuse),  get off at Châtelet les Halles RER station. Then take the subway Line 7 (direction Villejuif Louis-Arago), gett off at Jussieu station.

From Orly airport

Orly Airport is 14 kilometres south of Paris
To go to the hotels located in Montparnasse area, the easiest way is to take the AIR FRANCE shuttle to Gare Montparnasse (tickets to be bought on buses). To get to the Venue (CNES), take the RER Line B (direction Aeroport CDG),  get off at St Michel Notre Dame. Then take the subway Line 10 (direction Gare d'Austerlitz), gett off at Jussieu station.

Metro - subway

The Paris Metro is very easy to use and, given the traffic congestion in Paris, is often much faster than taking a taxi. The various lines are numbered and color-coded. You need to identify the number of the line and name of the station at the end of the line in the direction you wish to go so that you know which way to go in the station.
If you are going to be in Paris more than a few days, or are going to be travelling around the city for sightseeing, it is much cheaper to buy a “carnet” , which is a bunch of 10 tickets, than to buy single tickets every time you use the Metro.
